Superhero

Last week we made Superheroes by using a website called  crayon.Craiyon is a website where you would type in some stuff about The Superhero that you’re making like that age, how old…here is mine. Have you dane one before?

Adding Fractions

WALT: add fractions with different denominators.

Success Criteria:

  1. First, you need to convert one of the fractions into a fraction with the same denominator as the other fraction.

e.g.  2/9 + 1/3 = ?

2.  Now add them together by adding the top numbers (numerators). The denominators stay the same.

2/9 + 3/9

= 5/9

3.  Lastly, simplify the fraction if you need to, or convert the improper fraction into a mixed numeral.

4.  In this example we don’t need to simplify.

Here is mine: 1/4 + 2/8 = ?

  1. First 1/4 becomes 2/8, as 4 x 2 = 8 so what you do to the bottom do to the top so 1 x 2 is 2
  2. so 2/8 + 2/8  =4/8
  3. 4 divided by 4 is 1, and 8 divided is 2, so the simplified answer is 1/2.

Have you learnt about adding fractions?

Recount Writing Reflection

Recount Writing

Recently I wrote a recount

We were trying to use our best writing skills: best punctuation, organisation, sentences, words (vocabulary), spelling and develop our ideas.

We also used the correct structure and past tense.

I was proud of…using  punctuation because I don’t use punctuation a lot.

I need to work on ……fast typing because I don’t get a lot done.

What do you think about my writing? What can I improve? Longer writing.

Pie Graphs

This week we made a pie graph.

We looked at the most popular sport in our class.

My teacher’s hypothesis was that Rugby will be the most popular as we had games going on at the time plus the team just played a tournament.

Here are the steps:

  1. First we collect the data using a tally chart.
  2. Then we used calculators to find the percentages (e.g Rugby 4 out 21; 4/21 x 100).
  3. We then multiplied the percentage by 3.6 (as there is 360 degrees in a circle) to get the angle.
  4. The next step was to draw the angle on our circles (which we drew with a compass).
  5. We used protractors to create the angle.
  6. Once all the sports percentages were added we coloured each sport in.
  7. We then made Keys.

The trickiest part to do was drawing the angles.

I was most proud of how well I did it.

Here is my pie graph.

Have you made one?

Calendar Art

In Term 3 Kea made some calendar art.  We had to dye the paper blue and paint it black.

We then added a waka and a whale. I learnt the different sail shapes for different cultures.

I was most proud of drawing the waka and the hardest part was cutting it out.

Have you done Calendar art this year?

Paper Plane

How to make a plane we made a plane at the beginning of Term 3

Step 1 we got a piece of paper then we cuted the piece of paper out.

Step 2 we get a sharpie and drew over the lines.

Step 3 we coloured it in; you can choose any colour

Step 4  then we glue the parts together.

The trickest part was colouring it in. I was proud in finishing it.

Here is mine. What do you think?
